Snappy - 1 to 4 September
A little week with just 3 days of work, so let’s keep this snappy.
This week
This week, I have:
- moved my non-working day so we could take Kid A to Gulliver’s Valley with their friends before first ever days of school - such a fun day out and the school start seems to have gone well too, phew
- finished up (almost) all of the documentation following the latest update to the Digital and Data Profession Capability Framework
- planned the content change work for this month’s sprint cycle - with the understanding that things will likely need re-prioritising or pushing back because of site migration
- got back to testing the rebuilt site frontend and our new CMS - getting closer, just a couple of chunky things remaining to work on with the dev, such as search and feedback components
- chatted briefly again with fellow content designers and information architects about ‘how to fix all the GDS guidance things’ - this involved a convoluted analogy based on the council scene from LOTR which I swear was helpful in the moment
- a couple of sessions thinking deeply about how we might change ‘skills’ to make things better for the profession and government - great discussions with our team and capability leads from around gov
- more notes and ideas for my SDinGov session - I absolutely have to start putting the slides together next week, or else
- walked the new service owner through every step of the current governance and co-design processes that effectively form our ‘change the framework’ service - we’ve started a really detailed diagram, yey!
- struggled with some recruitment and HR fun - nuff said
- checked on signups for the next X-Gov Sheffield meetup, and happily we’ve already hit our unofficial target - you can still sign up to join us for breakfast and coffee on 17 September
Next week
Next week I’m looking forward to:
- getting in to some design work for both the site and upcoming content changes
- a proper away day in Manchester with the wider team - always nice to see everyone in person
- a hackathon in Sheffield exploring ‘how better use of information could help identify and help children who need support earlier’
